Hat museum

During November the pupils of year 5 and year 6 visited Stockport's excellent Hat Museum. The visits were arranged to support the school's history curriculum by providing hands on experience of what it was like to be an apprentice at a hat works during the Victorian era.

Stockport Hat Works is the UK’s only museum dedicated solely to the hatting industry, hats and headwear!

The museum was developed as a lottery funded regeneration project in Stockport, one of Manchester's leading hatting towns.

It is a winning interactive Visitor Attraction housed in a restored Grade ll listed Victorian Mill. Wellington Mill was once a thriving hat factory.

The Hat Works opened to the public for the first time in April 2000.

The Hat Works focuses on the development of the hatting industry from its humble beginnings as a cottage industry to the mass production of the early 19th century. It includes live demonstrations of working machinery combined with an extensive collection of hats.
