Music
As a Year 6 pupil, at St Peter's, I have experienced seven years of being a part of this unique musical school.
From the very beginning of our primary school years (Reception and Year 1) we were taught songs and rhythm. We were also taught how to perform to an audience.
From Year 2 onwards around 90% of our pupils have formal instruction in at least one musical instrument. I have been learning the violin for five years and it has brought me lots of fun and satisfaction. An added bonus for me personally is that my violin teacher also teaches at the high school I will attend.
Our school orchestra involves a wide range of instruments including: recorder, violin,
piano, flute, clarinet, viola, baritone horn, acoustic and electric guitar, saxophone, trumpet and bass guitar.
The school choir and orchestra are both run, with patience and commitment, by Mrs Rigg. She also teaches music to many of our past and present pupils.
Mrs Vaughn is the school’s music teacher who teaches the subject to all classes.
Our school productions benefit greatly from the high level of musical expertise in the school. This is also seen in our musical assemblies, where we perform to an audience in the school hall. This involves solo, duet or ensemble performances.
Our residential trips to Whitby, each year, are improved by the learning of songs about this very interesting and historical town.
Most of the administration and organisation is down to Miss A. Sellers. On behalf of the whole school, I would like to thank her.
