Week beginning 12th July 2021

 

This week in RE we have been learning about the special celebration of Baptism. 

We have been learning about CAFOD ‘Eyes of the World’ project. We have learnt to play croquet while wearing our pajamas and coats in the rain. Ooh!!! How Reception love the rain.

Sports Day 

This week the children have been fantastic superstars managing to complete 2 races

before a major downpour!

Week beginning 28th June 2021

This week we have been learning about Jesus meeting Simon (Peter) for the first time and then asking him to follow Him. We learnt that St Peter was a fisherman before he met Jesus. We have been decorating a picture of a fish including the words that Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishes of men.

Thank you Father Peter for our ice-cream treat!.

Week beginning 21st June 2021

This week we have been listening to the story of 'The Sand Horse' by Michael Foreman and then looking how to make large sand sculptures..

In maths this week we have been participating in a lot of activities linked to 'odds and evens'.

On Thursday in PE we have been practicing for sports day.

We have had a great time playing in our new role play area - The Blue Planet Aquarium cafe and shop.

Week beginning 14th June 2021

In maths this week we have been participating in a lot of activities linked to 'sharing'.

On Thursday in PE we have been learning some new games.

We have had a great time working together to paint our beach scene in our role play area

and painting a sea creature for our aquarium. (Look out for the photos over next few weeks)

Week beginning 24th May 2021

This week we have been been busy do lots of activities linked to the Disney film 'Inside Out'.

We have been learning all about doubling in our maths.

Over the last 5 weeks In PE we have been learning how to move in lots of different ways.

This week we have put all of the moves together to make a story..

We also had a great time participating in the Infant 'Sing Jamboree'

Week beginning 17th May 2021

This week we have listened to the story called 'Grandpa's Quilt' and then worked together to make his quilt using 2D shapes. We have had a lot of fun playing the game 'Hunt the addition calculation'. We have found different ways of representing pictorially a 1 digit number. We have used an ICT program to reinforce the mathematical concept of subtraction within 10 - ‘Robot More or Less’. 

We have used 3D objects to print with to make a space hat linked to the Nursery Rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ for our virtual Nursery Rhyme morning meet.

 

Well done to all the children who have received a special Nursery Rhyme certificate. 

Week beginning 10th May 2021

This week we have been listening to a story about Billy who is a bit of a worrier - ‘Silly Billy’ by Antony Browne. We have planted some beans, participated in some mindfulness number colouring in and had lots of fun with bubbles! (All linked to Mental Health Awareness week.)

We have worked together in teams to make a home for our aliens.

In Maths we have been participating in a range of activities linked to subtraction.

In PE this week we were using our bodies to make a 'tree and egg roll'.

Week beginning 3rd May 2021

This week we have been listening to the story ‘Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram.

In PE this week we were using our bodies to travel like different animals especially a caterpillar.

We having been using our cutting skills to cut up the green paper that we painted last week to make grass for our New Life / Spring picture.

Week beginning 30th April 2021

This week we have been listening to the story Whatever Next.

On Monday outside we designed and labelled our own 2D shape rockets.

The next day we worked in small teams to make our own rocket / spaceship.

Throughout the week we have been using props to retell the story of Whatever Next. 

Great excitement was had on Tuesday when are space station role play area was opened.

We having been mixing colours to make green in preparation for our New Life / Spring creative picture.

Week beginning 19th April 2021

This week we have been listening to a story about Jesus meeting two of His disciples on the road to Emmaus. We have been using our eyes, magnifying glasses / binoculars to find signs of Spring outside.

Our new topic is space so we have been writing a list of things that we would take with us into space. Also we have learnt who the 1st astronaut was to walk on the moon.

On Monday we went on an Easter Egg hunt to find a secret message.

This week we have been enjoying lots of activities such as making palm leaves for our RE, counting back game, playing a more and less game and

spending time observing our caterpillars changing into their cacoons.

Week beginning 15th March 2021

This week we have been learning lots of things. For example how 2D shapes can be fitted together (tessellation), using a 10 frame to play a game and to use a salad spinner to mix up paint.

In RE this week we have been learning about a time when one of Jesus’ friends let him down and how Jesus forgave him.

Week beginning 8th March 2021

It has been fantastic seeing all the happy smiles as the children walked into school on Monday. The atmosphere in the classroom all week has been full of happy, excited, chatty children.

Week beginning 14th December 2020

It was fantastic to see all Reception's lovely smiling faces on Monday.

We have enjoyed a very eventful week in school.

The children have been fantastic stars performing their nativity play 'A very Special Baby'.

This week everyone gets a certificate for their excellent behaviour and effort with our play.

On Thursday we were lucky to have a visit from from Father Christmas on party day.

The Reception staff would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and relaxing Christmas.

Week beginning 7th December 2020

Even though it has been a short week in school the children have been busy learning e.g. how to

play dominoes, make some Christmas decorations, learn a new ICT game and

spending time looking at the Christmas books.

Week beginning 30th November 2020

On Monday we began preparing for Christmas. The children were introduced to our class Advent Wreath and they have begun to learn about the meaning of the first candle on the Advent wreath.

The children have written their Advent promises thinking about how they can help others.

We have had fun in our Toy Shop Museum finding out about

old toys, buying and selling toys as well as writing shopping lists.

Week beginning 23rd November 2020

This week we have been listening to lots of stories about toys e.g. 'Lost in the Toy Museum' by David Lucas. We have painted our favourite toy to go on the shelves in our Toy Museum Shop. On Wednesday we looked at Miss Miller's toys that she had as a girl. On Thursday we sorted out photos of old and new toys.

This week we have been working hard with our maths, participating in a car colour survey and learning about what makes a great friend through different stories and activities (Anti-Bullying Week)

This week we have been busy doing lots of activities

e.g. ordering numbers, matching amounts, counting on game, 

 

We have been  reading the following books: -

'I love you Blue Kangaroo' and 'What shall we do Blue Kangaroo?' .

In small groups the children were asked to build something for toys to play in. They came up with some super ideas e.g. castle, coach, camper van.

The St. Peter's Family helped them to make their constructions

Remembrance Day 11th November 2020

Week beginning 2nd November 2020

Welcome back everyone after the half term.

This week we have been on a shape hunt in our outdoor area, then we worked together to sort the 2D shapes. We have painted and printed our own Autumn trees, as well as making a repeating pattern on the computer.

 

We have been  reading the following books: -

'Were going on a bear hunt' and 'Were going on a leaf hunt' .

In groups of 15 we have been making our own obstacle courses using our St. Peter's Family to help us - Thelma the Thinker, Tim the Team Worker, Percy the Participator and Sandy the Self-Manager.

Week beginning 19th October 2020

This week we have worked in pairs to make a picture of something God made for us to look after.

The children have made some amazing leaf animals.

We have listened to the story ‘The Magic Bed’ by John Burningham and created our own magic flying bed. Please ask your child what their magic word is to make their bed fly.

Week beginning 12th October 2020

This week we have been listening to the story ‘Mr Gumpy's Motor Car’ by John Burningham. 

We then made large cars out of our outdoor construction equipment.

 

We have listened to the story ‘Were Going on a leaf Hunt’ by Steve Metzger and discussed the season of Autumn. Working in pairs we explored our school grounds looking for signs of Autumn. Together we collected Autumn items in preparation for making a picture of something God made for us to look after.

We have been listening to the story ’Oi! Get Off Our train’  by John Burningham.

Working as teams we have made trains out of different items.

Week beginning 28th September

This week we have been learning how to use the road works and mechanic shop equipment.

We have been working together inside and outside of our classroom learning how to share our equipment.

 

We have listened to author and illustrator Kristina Stephenson tell us a story about the wonderful world of

Sir Charlie Stinky Socks – the bold, brave, little knight with a heart of gold.

We helped Sir Charlie on his quest for hidden treasure by following the clues and solving the riddles on a mystical map, in a magical, musical retelling of The Tale of Two Treasures. There were puppets, props and songs. We even learnt how to make our own treasure chest.

We have enjoyed getting to know more about the different things that we can use in Reception.
