Year 4

Year 4 2022 - 2023

Week beginning 10th July

For our final topic this year, the children have been challenged to create art using old scraps of materials and junk. Their first masterpieces were inspired by the work of Sonia Delaunay, who they learned about earlier this year.

Week beginning 3rd July

The children had their ‘moving up’ morning this week. Year 4 spent some time in their new classroom getting to know their new teacher!

Week beginning 26th June

Year 4 finished their topic about earning a living this week. They have learned many things about working life and the reasons why people have particular jobs.

Week beginning 19th June

It was sports day this week, and what a day it was. Beautiful weather and incredible effort by everyone!

Week beginning 12th June

It's been a very hot first week back but that hasn't stopped Year 4 doing some excellent work, particularly in PE and Science.

Week beginning 15th May

Class trip week finally arrived! the children were superb during their visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Have a look at a few highlights below.

Week beginning 8th May

Examples of some of the great work in Year 4 this week. The story of Pentecost and a completed light up sign!

Week beginning 1st May

Slightly shorter week this week, but still lots of learning taking place. The children finished their Science topic on circuits and conductors by making interactive quiz questions. They used split pins in a circuit that buzzed when the correct answer was selected.

Week beginning 27th March

As well as working on their light up signs, Year 4 have been practising their Holy Week reflection which they will share with the rest of the children next week. They have captured the atmosphere and feeling of the Last Supper in their rehearsals so far and we look forward to their final attempt next week.

Week beginning 20.3.23

More excellent work towards the completion of their Light up signs this week. The children have worked hard to 'clad' their frames.

Week beginning 13.3.23

We marked science week by learning more about electricity, particularly electrical safety, and the inventor of the lightbulb...Thomas Edison. They also continued their DT project and used saws to cut their wooden frames.

Week beginning 6.3.23

Some wonderful topic work this week. The children practised making circuits with LEDs before designing their very own light box. They're looking forward to making them next week!

Week beginning 27.2.23

The first week of our Lenten half term. The children have started the season by making their Lenten promises, and starting their new topics, which includes a DT topic where the children will create a light up sign. We also marked World book Day. The children dressed as one of their favourite characters and reminded themselves about the importance and enjoyment we can take from reading.

Week beginning 13.2.23

Our final football session in PE this week culminated in two almost full-size games. The children demonstrated the skills and techniques they have learned during the half term. Tennis is up next.

Week beginning 6.2.23

Internet safety day was celebrated this week. Year 4 produced some super posters about staying safe when gaming online. They also finished their art topic and produced some excellent clothing designs influenced by the work of Sonia Delaunay.

Week beginning 30.1.23

Year 4 conducted an investigation into the time it takes chocolate to melt. They tested milk, dark and vegan chocolate to see which one melted in the shortest time. They also demonstrated great football skills in PE.

Week beginning 23.1.22

To finish our block of learning in music, the children prepared an arrangement for a verse or chorus of ‘This little light of mine’ . They designed their arrangements with different rhythms, vocal effects and solo parts. It was fantastic to see and hear! The children also started their new Art topic and used compasses to draw circles.

Week beginning 16.1.23

Fantastic work in music this week. The children have been playing glockenspiels to the tune of 'This Little Light Of Mine', and experimenting with arrangements to sing 'I wanna sing scat'. Next week, we will be moving on to our next topic which is art based. We are all looking forward to it!

Week beginning 9.1.22

An excellent first (full) week back. The children got stuck into their new topics and have enjoyed singing, dancing and smiling along to 'This Little Light Of Mine'. We have also seen some excellent work in all other curriculum areas. The photos below show evidence of that in English and Science.

Week beginning 28.11.22

The children worked in small groups to find out the differences between mammals, fish and birds and then vertebrates and invertebrates. They used trusted websites and safe searching strategies which they have been learning about in Computing.

Week beginning 21.11.22

This week we had a visitor to Year 4 called Sam. She was from the Brain injury trust and talked to the class about the function of the brain, how we can look after it and how a brain injury can affect our emotions and general wellbeing.

Week beginning 14.11.22

This week we celebrated anti-bullying week. The children showed a fantastic attitude when learning about race bullying or racism. They discussed various scenarios before creating an anti-racism poster for homework.

Week beginning 7.11.22

The children have been looking at artefacts from the Second World War including gas masks, medals and diaries. They also worked in pairs to find out more about rationing using the iPads.

Week beginning 17.10.22

Year 4 have had a marvellous final week, which included their excellent Harvest assembly and the TTRockstars launch day. When performing the assembly, the children were calm, read their lines clearly, sang brilliantly and made all of the Year 4 team very proud!

Week beginning 10.10.22

On Monday, Year 4 took part in a cycle safety session called Headsmart. The children watched a video about a boy called Joe, who suffered life changing injuries after an accident that occurred whilst cycling without a helmet. Following this, they were expertly lead through a simple 'eggsperiment' by Andy from the road safety team.

Week beginning 3.10.22

Another busy week in Year 4 with lots of new learning in Maths, English and Topic. In Science, The children created posters explaining how to keep your teeth healthy.

Week beginning 26.9.22

This week, Year 4 have been finishing their topic on seasonal food, making mind maps, learning about teeth, solving 4 digit number reasoning problems and writing diary entries. Some brilliant examples of this work can be found below.

Week beginning 19.9.22

Another super week in Year 4! Some great hockey skills in PE and in our final food preparation lesson, the children demonstrated excellent hygiene and careful spooning of ingredients. Well done everyone!
