At St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School, we want every child to be inspired, curious and fascinated about the world and its people. We want them to be enthusiastic and excited learners of Geography. As pupils of St. Peter’s, we wish them to deepen their understanding of physical and human processes and continually show an eagerness to strengthen their knowledge of the beautiful world God has provided them with.
Our main aim at St. Peter’s Catholic School is for children to leave us with a wide range of wonderful and rich memories in geography formed through stimulating, varied and thought-provoking experiences. The geography curriculum at St. Peter’s enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. We seek to inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people which will remain with them for the rest of their lives and to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. We intend to foster a sense of wonder in their world whilst developing an informed and Christian concern for the quality of their environment. We wish them to have a profound understanding of how the Earth’s features are shaped, and changed over time. St. Peter’s pupils will develop the geographical skills needed to collect and analyse information, gather first hand experiences of the environment and be confident using their independent skills to carry out geographical enquiries. Children will be enabled to interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and communicate geographical information in a variety of ways including; through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and recording.
