Visit from Father Christmas & Nativity Preparations
We have been getting ready for the event of the year…the EYFS & KS1 Nativity! No spoilers here though, we are saving our hard work for the performances. After a hugely successful Christmas fair, organised by our wonderful PTA, the celebrations were started with a visit from Father Christmas! Year 1 we’re very excited and had a lovely chat with him, asking lots of insightful questions. ππ βοΈ

Computing - Introducing Programming
The children have been loving programming and the challenge of sequencing and creating alogorithms to move objects around the screen. They have worked together and independently to create a programme and have had to debug any mistakes. They are now working on using the key words correctly when explaining what they are doing. Excellent work Year 1, keep it up! π₯π€β¬οΈ

Science - Investigating Plants
Year 1 are loving their Science topic this half term. They enjoyed some outdoor learning this week and took to the school grounds to explore the tree they could see. The children enjoye recognising deciduous and evergreen trees and getting to spend time feeling the trees and recognising the different parts. Super work Year 1, keep it up. ππ²π³ππΏ

PE- Gymnastics
Year 1 have continued with gymnastics this week, focusing on different ways to roll. The children worked well to improve their techniques and enjoyed our gam of ‘don’t crack the egg’ where they were challenged to complete a tuck roll without their arms of legs breaking free. Keep up the super work Year 1!π€ΈβοΈβΊοΈπ₯

Bonfire Break the Rules Day
The children had a wonderful day breaking the rules! They all looked amazing and from extra play, finishing work early and having a mid day dance party and many other things, Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed themselves. ππ€ͺ

Geography
We have loved exploring our Geography topic, Where Do I Live? The children have been learning the UK countries and capital cities and characteristics about the places. Thy children then had to locate the countries in our playground map. Super work Year 1 ππ¬π§

DT - Part 2
Year 1 threw themselves into making, testing and evaluating thei toy car garages this week. The children had a blast decorating assembling and testing their garages. They were dedicated to ensure they created the best stable structures they could and showed great knowledge and skill. Well done a year 1, your garages were great, βοΈπ
7th - 11th October 2024
DT - Part 1
Year 1 began by designing their toy car garages. Together they tested and sampled different materials to decide which would be most suitable for their own product. Once the children have done this, they put together some instructions to follow and began to paint their boxes. They are very excited to assemble their stable structure next week βΊοΈπ

Phonics
Year 1 have been working incredibly hard to develop their phonics knowledge and applying this when writing. We love our phonics lessons and rise to the challenge every week to learn new sounds and improve our reading and writing skills. Keep it up Year 1, you are amazing! πβοΈ

European Day of Languages
This week we have been celebrating European Day of Languages. The children began by exploring different ways to say hello in many European languages, with each other. They also shared some of their own knowledge of world languages, that their families or they could speak. The children are looking forward to continuing to learn some more words in French (our school MFL) over the year.

Topic - History - Seaside Holidays from the Past
Year 1 have been loving our first History unit this year. We have been exploring seaside holidays in the Victorian times. The children had to work in teams to be detectives, to find information about how the Victorians spent their time at the seaside. Well done Year 1 for your enthusiasm and excellent work in History. ππ

We Love Reading
After celebrating National Read A Book Day, last week, Year 1 really caught the reading bug! The children have spent time throughout the week in our school library, reading for pleasure and choosing some new books for our class library. We can’t wait to read lots more this year! πβ€οΈπ

First Week in Year 1
It has been a lovely first few days settling in to our new classroom and routines. The children have been wonderful and have been sharing their different personalities. We can’t wait for a super year together to learn and grow!
