Friday 21st July

Here are some highlights from Year 6’s final week at St. Peter’s. Goodbye and good luck class of 2023 - we will miss you! ๐Ÿ’™

Friday 14th July

This week, the children did 3 amazing performances of The Wizard of Oz. Check out some of the highlights below!

Friday 7th July

This week, we concluded our Chinese art topic. We explored pottery from the Ming dynasty and created our own vase designs.

Friday 30th June

This week, we have been learning about the Terracotta Army. We enjoyed creating our own clay warriors.  

Friday 23rd June

This week, we started our new Chinese art topic. We began by exploring themes within traditional Chinese art. Then, we created our own Chinese dragon drawings. ๐ŸฒWe have also been learning to use brushstrokes effectively to create different flowers and plants. ๐ŸŒธ Another highlight of our week was Sports Day. The children participated brilliantly and had a great afternoon! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ† 

Friday 16th June

This week, we enjoyed working in pairs to solve some challenging maths problems. In RE, we learned about the fruits of the Holy Spirit and created some beautiful work to explain we can show qualities such as patience, gentleness and self-control in our daily lives.

Friday 26th May

This week, we enjoyed creating a backdrop for our performance of The Wizard of Oz. On Thursday, we showed fantastic teamwork skills when we worked in pairs to solve a variety of maths problems. We have also been making comparisons between Manchester and different regions of North America. 

Friday 19th May

This week, we enjoyed learning more about the geographical features of North America. We worked in pairs and used iPads to locate the countries of North America and we explored features such as the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains and Niagara Falls. To celebrate National Numeracy Day, we spent time discussing careers and hobbies that involve mathematical skills. Have a look below to see some of the posters we created. In our science lesson, we learned more about evolution and inheritance. 

Friday 12th May

This week, we started our new geography topic: North America. We enjoyed using our artistic skills to create a sketch of one of North America’s most famous physical features - the Grand Canyon.

Friday 5th May

Today, we used the iPads to research facts about King Charles III and the coronation. We also enjoyed a delicious coronation picnic lunch! Another highlight of our week was a brilliant assembly where a visitor from UK Parliament taught us lots of interesting information about the House of Commons, the House of Lords and about how bills become laws. We also enjoyed developing our tag rugby skills in PE. 

Friday 28th April

This week, we learned to use nets to build 3D shapes. In our athletics lesson, we worked in teams to complete relay challenges. In our computing lessons, we have been exploring software that uses artificial intelligence.

Thursday 6th April 

This week, children in Year 6 took part in a Holy Week service. They retold the events of Jesus’ arrest and trial in a thoughtful, reflective way. They also made beautiful Easter cards. โœ๏ธ

Friday 31st March

This week, we concluded our history topic about the changing roles of women. The children created timelines to show how women’s rights and roles have changed over the years. They also took part in a retrieval quiz.

Friday 24th March

One highlight of our week was the Easter story trail at the Baptist church. We enjoyed learning more about the Easter story and the events of Holy Week. In our science lesson, the children applied their knowledge of light and reflection to explore mazes. In a history lesson this week, the children looked at primary and secondary sources to learn about the lives of women during the 1950s. 

Friday 17th March

We have been learning about how women’s rights and roles in society have changed over the years. This week, we learned about the suffragettes. The children enjoyed creating their own placards to campaign for women’s suffrage. They marched and chanted with great passion. Check out the video below!

Friday 10th March

This week, the children enjoyed creating jumping routines in their gymnastics lesson. They explored different jumps and they are gaining confidence when using the apparatus each week. The children also produced some lovely creative RE work in response to learning about Jesus’ transfiguration.

Friday 3rd March

What a busy week we’ve had! This week, the children have been in charge of running their Lenten games to raise money for Mission Together. They did such an excellent job and had lots of creative fundraising ideas. On Thursday, we all enjoyed dressing up to celebrate our love of reading for World Book Day. ๐Ÿ“š We also had fun in our first tennis lesson. ๐ŸŽพ 

Friday 17th February

This week, we have enjoyed learning more about burgers as part of our DT topic. We made, tasted and evaluated falafel burgers, salsa, BBQ sauce and tzatziki. We also explored different types of bread and evaluated their suitability for use as burger buns. What a fun way to end the half-term! ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿฅฃ๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿณ

Friday 10th February

This week, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week by thinking about what we can do to connect with others. The children created a paper chain, showing different things that make them feel connected such as spending time with family and friends, listening to music and going to clubs. For Safer Internet Day, they created informative posters to share top tips for staying safe online. On Monday, we had a visit from the fire service. The firefighters taught us about fire safety in our homes; some children even got to try on some of their protective gear!๐Ÿง‘‍๐Ÿš’๐Ÿงฏ๐Ÿš’

Friday 3rd February

This week, we have enjoyed exploring abstract art. The children studied some examples before creating their own patterns and landscapes. Later in the week, each child created their own unique landscape, using a range of techniques that they have learned during this unit. 

Friday 27th January

This week, we enjoyed learning more about landscape art; we created landscapes using watercolours and added finishing touches to our work from last week. We also enjoyed learning new skills in football. In English, we used drama to explore the emotions of characters from The Selfish Giant. We’ve also been working in pairs to consolidate our knowledge of fractions and to explore synonyms and antonyms - what a busy week!

Friday 20th January

This week, we enjoyed creating landscape art. The children experimented with different watercolour techniques. We are looking forward to developing our artistic skills over the next few weeks! ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ–Œ๐Ÿ–ผ 

Friday 13th January

This week, we started to create a dance inspired by the British values of democracy, individual liberty, tolerance, mutual respect and the rule of law. The children also enjoyed working in pairs to solve problems involving fractions. 

Friday 6th January

The children have made a brilliant start to the new year! We spent some time today focusing on our school vision and mission. The children enjoyed creating beautiful posters based on the themes ‘be yourself’ and ‘be faithful’. 

Thursday 22nd December

We have had a brilliant final week of the term! The children enjoyed performing a talent show for their Special Friends in Reception and they enjoyed a party together. Well done to everyone in Year 6 for working so hard since September. We hope you enjoy a lovely break and have a magical Christmas! โค๏ธ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŒŸ

Friday 16th December

This week, we started a new music topic. During this unit, the children will be composing  their own protest songs. We started the unit by listening to ‘The March of the Women’, inspired by the suffragette movement. The children enjoyed sharing their opinions. We enjoyed a lovely Christmas dinner with our Special Friends today. 

Friday 9th December

This week, the children enjoyed working in pairs and helping each other to edit their writing. They produced some fantastic hybrid texts which included  information about tigers, explained why they are endangered and persuaded people to help to save tigers from extinction. 

Friday 2nd December
This week, we have enjoyed some outdoor learning. In our science lesson, we investigated and classified different plants so we explored the different species that grow in our school grounds. For geography, we walked to 2 different locations in our local area to investigate how the land is used. We then proposed changes that we think would improve our local area.

Friday 25th November

In English this week, the children enjoyed working in small groups to write an informative text about white-rumped vultures - an endangered species. They also had fun with their Special Friends this afternoon. 

Friday 18th November
This week, we have been learning about cyber bullying. We discussed how to behave kindly and responsibly online and we shared tips for what to do if you are being bullied online. The theme of anti-bullying week is ‘Reach out’. The children know that they should speak to a trusted adult if they see any unkind or inappropriate messages online. On Wednesday, we attended a Crucial Crew child safety event. The children enjoyed learning more about staying safe in lots of different scenarios and they created digital posters to share what they have learned. 

Thursday 10th November

We are having another brilliant day! We have been abseiling, on the zip wire, solving puzzles in the forest and showing off our skills in archery! We are all safe and well and we are looking forward to our campfire this evening. ๐Ÿ”ฅ ๐Ÿชต๐Ÿก

Wednesday 9th November

We are all safe and well and having a fantastic time! Yesterday the children took part in a great range of activities including aeroball, a giant swing and trapeze. They have also been learning survival skills in the woods. The sun is shining and we’re all looking forward to another brilliant day of adventures! We had a great first evening at PGL! We are looking forward to a fun day of adventures today. 

Friday 4th November

This week, the children enjoyed developing their programming skills as they worked on a new Scratch project. In a reading lesson, the children worked in pairs and compared 2 autumnal poems; they learned some exciting new vocabulary.

Friday 21st October

Today we have enjoyed an amazing rock star day. The children had great fun dressing up as rock stars and playing on Times Tables Rock Stars. Another highlight of our week was the children’s natural art that they created. Their beautiful work was inspired by the Kingdom of God. 

Friday 14th October

This week, our highlights included a fantastic visit from Andy, a member of the Stockport Road Safety team. The children enjoyed investigating the speed of local traffic and they learned lots about how to stay safe on the roads. In English, the children worked in pairs and helped each other to edit a piece of writing. They also enjoyed a mini hockey tournament - what a busy week! 

Friday 7th October

Today we enjoyed our lovely Special Friends assembly! We also learned a song about the Viking invasion of Britain - check it out below!

Friday 30th September

This week, we celebrated European Day of Languages by researching the languages that are spoken in different countries. We also concluded our DT topic by testing and evaluating our kites. This afternoon, we spent some time getting to know the children in Reception - we are so excited for our Special Friends assembly next week!

Friday 23rd September

This week, Year 6 pupils enjoyed making their own kites as part of our ‘Chinese inventions’ topic. They also took part in an active maths lesson, consolidating their knowledge of place value.
