RE Summer term 2

09.05.19

Year 2 went on our trip to the Blue Planet Aquarium. It was a brilliant day in which we saw and took part in a range of fantastic activities including: pelican feeding, shark tunnel, shark workshop, live feeding show, rock pools and much more.

The children practiced and performed dramas based on the events of Easter Sunday.

Their work and effort were fantastic!

25.04.19

This week, Year 2 started a new unit of work in PE based on physical and active problem solving through communication and teamwork. This week the theme of our lesson was Pirates.

Year 2 have been working on their 'we are photographers' ICT topic. They have really enjoyed finding the beauty in seemingly bland and boring things through photography.

This week Year 2 carried out a Science investigation, observing the absorbency of three different materials - paper, sponge and plastic.

28.03.19

This week Year 2 completed a 'smile for a mile' challenge. We completed as many laps of our school field as we could in 15 minutes.

15.03.19 -We have really enjoyed learning about weights this week.

08.03.19- We have had a brilliant day celebrating World Book Day. We have enjoyed our work about Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs.

This week we have been working very hard solving problems in maths.

Over the past three weeks we have read four dragon stories in class: 'The Dragon Machine,' two very different versions of 'George and the Dragon' and 'The Paperbag Princess.'

This week the children each chose their personal favourite dragon story and worked in teams to discuss the reasons why their chosen story is their favourite.

In our PE lessons, we have been practicing the different Sportshall Athletics field events. The children have practiced their long jump techniques and this week they moved onto the speed bounce. We will continue to practice these events in the coming weeks, as well as looking at: chest push, triple jump, vertical jump and soft javelin.

As part of our Science topic, Year 2 have been focusing on the importance of a balanced and healthy diet. This week, we had a food tasting session in which the children tried and rated a selection of foods from different food groups.

The children have been working so hard, practicing for their Christmas Nativity performance of, 'Hooray In A Manger!'

This week Year 2 have been observing and recording the effect that exercise has on our heart rates.  We discussed the very important job that the heart does and thought about what we can do to keep it healthy.

We made a start to our Great Fire of London art work.  The children really enjoyed painting the fiery background.  We will work on creating the 1666 London skyline next!

Year 2 have began a Great Fire of London themed Dance topic with Mrs. O'Hare.  The children are building up to a whole class dance, including elements of individual, partnered, small group and whole class work.

18/10/18

Year 2 have been practising counting forwards and backwards from 2 and 3-digit numbers in multiples of 10.  This week, the children used Base 10 materials to aid their understanding and visualise the concept.

11/10/18

Year 2 have been practising some fundamental sporting skills: throwing, catching, rolling, etc.  This week the children played a target based throwing game, testing their aim, technique and control of power.

04/10/18

Our topic this half term is 'Fire.'  This week, Year 2 went to the ICT Suite to research facts and answer questions about the Great Fire of London.

14/09/18

The children practised making 2 and 3-digit numbers by using arrow cards to partition the 100's, 10's and 1's.
