Year 2

Welcome to the Year 2 class page! 

Friday 9th July 

This week, children in Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their class Sports Day. They participated in events such as the sack race and the relay. Every child was rewarded with an ice lolly afterwards :) 

Friday 2nd July

This week, children in Year 2 created beautiful cards to send to parishioners. Inside, they wrote the message, ‘Keep smiling, keep shining’. The cards will be sent out to people in the community next week.
 

This week’s Gold Award winner is Edward. Well done! 

Friday 25th June
This week, children in Year 2 practised their upcoming Sports Day with Mrs O’Hare. The children had great fun! 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Eliza and Sophia. Our Gold Award winners are Matty and James. Well done! 

 

Friday 18th June

This week, children in Year 2 enjoyed an active maths lesson. They took part in a relay race, solving maths questions and completing obstacles along the way. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Matty and Charlie. Well done! 

Friday 28th May

This week, children in Year 2 have enjoyed ‘Everybody Writes’ week. They used ‘Inside Out’ as inspiration to explore their emotions and memories. Each child planned, wrote and edited their own recount of a memorable moment in their lives. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Connor and Finley. Our Gold Award winner is Lara. Well done! 

Friday 21st May

On Wednesday, children in Year 2 celebrated National Numeracy Day by enjoying a morning of ‘Countdown’. Everyone had a great time! 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Joseph and Aaron and our Gold Award winner is Lucy. Well done!

Friday 14th May

This week, children in Year 2 enjoyed planting cress seeds. They first learned about how being in nature and looking after plants can support people’s well-being. They then watched time lapse videos of seeds growing into plants. Each child planted seeds and watched them begin to grow throughout the week. The children will be allowed to bring their cress home :)

 

This week’s Good Workers are Iona and Phoebe and our Gold Award winner is Filip. Well done!

Friday 7th May

Today, children in Year 2 enjoyed a tennis lesson delivered to them by a tennis coach! They will enjoy two more lessons over the next two weeks. 
 

This week’s Good Workers are Tom and Abigail, and our Gold Award winner is Finley. Well done!

Friday 30th April

This week, children in Year 2 learned about patterns and sequences in maths. They began the week by using Lego to recreate patterns shown in pictures. They moved on to solving problems linked to both patterns and numbers.

 

Our Good Workers this week are Jaxon and Cara, and our Gold Award winner is Iona. Well done!

Friday 23rd April

This week, as part of our celebration for St. George’s Day, children in Year 2 learned about British Values. They began by discussing what they think is important to British people. Then they discussed British Values and created posters about one of the areas. In addition to this, the children enjoyed a St. George’s Day disco - please see the ‘Curriculum’ section of the website for more photos. 
 

Our Good Workers today are Aaron and Lydia. Our Gold Award winner is Connor. 

Friday 16th April 

This week, children in Year 2 learned about the resurrection of Jesus. They listened to the story of Jesus appearing to the disciples then created art work as a response to this. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Freddie and Fryderyk and our Gold Award winner is Grace.

 

Friday 26th March 
Today, children in Year 2 enjoyed participating in a pyjama danceathon to raise money for the Mission Together charity. Everyone had a great time! 


This week’s Good Workers are Max and Sam and our Gold Award winner is Freddie. Well done!

Friday 19th March

This week, children in Year 2 enjoyed playing a game of rhyming snap! In English, they are learning about funny poems that include rhyming words. This game helped them to gain a deeper understanding of words that rhyme.

 

Our Good Workers this week are Charlie and Mikey. Our Gold Award winner is Jaxon. Well done, everyone! 

Friday 12th March

What a fantastic week back for all of the children in Year 2! Everyone has adapted so well to what was an extremely successful week. Activities enjoyed included science experiments, poem writing and weight problem-solving. 
 

Our Good Workers this week are Tom and Wallace, and our Gold Award winner is Abigail- well done!

 

Friday 18th December

This week, children in Year 2 have enjoyed lots of Christmas activities including making beautiful Christmas cards, creating under-the-sea calendars to give out as presents and meeting Father Christmas! Everyone had a lovely week. We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy New Year! 

Friday 11th December

Today, children in Year 2 enjoyed a key skills lesson in maths. They used dice to create calculations for a partner. 
 

This week, James and Elliott are our Good Workers. Joseph is our Gold Award winner. Well done!

Friday 4th December

This week, the children in Year 2 completed their dance module which was centred around the Great Fire of London. Children had to represent the fire starting in the oven, the fire spreading, people fighting the fire and the fire dying out. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Eliza and Finley Wr. Our Gold Award winner is Lydia. Well done!

Friday 20th November

This week, all children in Year 2 participated in Sports Leadership Training. They learned how to lead playground games, joining in with one another’s activities. Everyone had a fantastic time. Thank you to Ryan, Abigail, Finley and Max for the brilliant photographs!
 

Our Good Workers this week are Cara and Charlie. Our Gold Award winner is Elliott. Well done!

Friday 13th November

This week, Year 2 commemorated Remembrance Day by learning about what each of the different coloured poppies symbolise, colouring poppies and respecting the two minute silence. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Ryan and Phoebe. Our Gold Award winner is Max. 

Friday 6th November

This week, the children read the story of ‘The Scorpion and the Frog’ as part of their work on fables. Using the story as inspiration, the children thought about what is in their own nature. They wrote down their thoughts about themselves: what they think is good, what they think is not so good (which could only be ideas like ‘I worry too much’- nothing to do with what they look like or their personalities), and what they would like to do to get better. I was so impressed with how sensibly and maturely the children completed this activity. 
 

This week, our Good Workers are Lara and Edward, and our Gold Award winner is Eliza. Well done!

Friday 23rd October

This week, children in Year 2 completed their amazing ‘Great Fire of London’ skyline art work. We have been able to display the work in our classroom which has really brightened up the place! Well done Year 2!

Friday 16th October

This week, all children in Year 2 wrote a postcard from the point of view of Alice from ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’. They created such an amazing piece of writing that we decided that the children should copy their work onto card to display in the classroom. 
 

This week our Good Workers are Iona and Grace and our Gold Award winner is Wallace. 

Friday 9th October

This week, children in Year 2 participated in a Collective Worship session which was all about love and forgiveness. They looked at the Bible quote ‘Love keeps no record of wrongs’ then discussed it. After that, they wrote a message to God telling Him about a ‘wrong’ that they had experienced, explaining that they forgive the person who had wronged them. 
 

Abigail and Finley are our Good Workers and Phoebe has won the Gold Award- well done!

Friday 2nd October

This week, children in Year 2 enjoyed participating in the ‘Reading is Magic Festival’. They were able to watch live streams of a range of authors and illustrators talk about their stories, poems and art work. They responded by completing different activities including designing a tail for Julian from ‘Julian is a Mermaid’ and creating a ‘Wanted’ poster for Evil Pea from the Supertato stories. 

 

Jaxon and Sophia are our Good Workers and Mikey is our Gold Award winner - well done!

Friday 25th September 

This week, children in Year 2 enjoyed an orienteering lesson with Mrs O’Hare. First, they warmed up by trying a range of sports-related moves like jumping and dancing. Then the children were sorted into groups and had to find the clues dotted around the playground. Everyone had lots of fun!

Friday 18th September

This week, the children in Year 2 have enjoyed learning a song using Makaton rather than singing. They had a great time and did a wonderful job of performing ‘Three Little Birds’.

Friday 11th September

Welcome back to all of the children in Year 2! What a fantastic week we have had, enjoying many different activities and lessons. Below you will find photos of one of our English lessons, where the children were asked to choose a setting from the story ‘What will you dream of tonight?’. They then had to create an image of that setting before writing sentences to describe it.
