This week the children in Year 1 enjoyed their Mission Together Lenten walk.
Fortunately, the weather has been glorious so the children had a lovely time completing
a relaxing walk (with a bit of running or skipping too) in the sun.
They collected their Mission Together colour stamps after each lap
and completed the walk with big smiles on their faces!

PTA - Gymnastics Taster Lesson
This week the PTA very kindly arranged for a special gymnastics lesson for each class. The children loved experiencing some new equipment and working on a range of skills with the gymnastics coach. The children loved taking part in the session and were enthusiastic at every point. Brilliant work Year 1! ๐คธโ๏ธโบ๏ธ๐

Science - Materials
Year 1 have started a new science topic on materials. We went on a materials hunt around school to help identify the different types. We can’t wait to explore this topic over the next few weeks. โบ๏ธ

PE - Dance - Pirate Performance
After weeks of choreography and rehearsing, Year 1 carried out their final pirate themed dance. The children threw themselves into the entire unit of work and let their creativity and characters shine. Excellent work Year 1! ๐ดโ ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ

World Book Day 2025
We celebrated world book day with the whole school this week. The children came in dressed as a. Hard tee of their choice and shared their love for a book with their friends. The children made book review and also enjoyed writing a class story of their own. We had a wonderful world book day. We love reading! ๐งก๐๐ค๐

History - Explorers
Year 1 are so excited to continue with our new History topic. We began investigating Christopher Columbus’ life and explorations. The children were fascinated comparing things across History and understanding who and how Columbus was able to explore parts of the world. ๐โ๏ธ๐บ
10th - 14th February 2025
Science - Senses
Year 1 have been learning about their bodies, focusing particularly on their senses. The children have taken part in experiments to use each one and particularly enjoyed our tasting experiment. The children were given a range of foods to taste and had to guess what they were. ๐คช๐๐ญ
3rd - 7th February 2025
Music
Year 1 have loved our music lessons. We learnt about pitch, rhythm and finding the best in a march and chant. The children got to perform on tuned and untuned instruments as well as compose their own chant. The children did so well playing and singing along to a song on the glockenspiel. We have some budding musicians in the class. Well done Year 1 ๐๐ถ๐ฅ
27th - 31st January 2025
PE - Dance
This week Year 1 began choreographing their pirate themed dance routine. We focused on getting into character and working in teams to share, trial and plan some themed moves. The children were brilliant and threw everything at it. We can’t wait to develop this more over the next few weeks. Watch this space! ๐ดโ ๏ธโ๏ธ๐บ

RE - Presentation In the Temple
This week the children have been exploring the story of Jesus’ presentation in the temple as a baby and the significance of this. The children created role plays to retell the story and then considered how Jesus is a light of all nations. They made candles and added ways Jesus light shines in the world. The children are ready to use these candles when we celebrate Candlemas on the 2nd of February. ๐ฏ๐โ๏ธ

Art - Self Portraits
We have had a busy few weeks carrying out our Art topic of self portraits. The children have loved exploring other artists work and using a range of mediums to make their own portraits. They worked on developing different techniques and skills using collage, paints, sketching pencils and sculpting. It has been a wonderful topic and the children loved showcasing their work to one another. Brilliant work Year 1, you should all be very proud of your masterpieces! โ๏ธ๐จโบ๏ธ

English - Questions & Statements
The children have had lots of fun learning about writing questions. They worked together to create questions for the Lion and Mouse character from our focus text, The Lion Inside, and took it in turns to hot seat some of their classmates to ask and answer their questions. Super questions Year 1, well done! ๐ญ๐ค๐ฆ

Christmas Celebrations 2024
Year 1 have had so much fun bringing the Autumn term to a close. They have worked extremely hard in all the curriculum areas and had lots of fun celebrating along the way. The children have enjoyed Christmas dinner, Christmas party day and lots of other festive treats. A huge thank you to Year 1 and their families for an amazing first term in Year 1. Enjoy a well earned rest and we look forward to seeing you all in 2025. ๐โญ๏ธ๐

Nativity 2024
Wow! What an amazing week performing our Nativity to our families and friends. Their performances were full of joy and laughter. The children worked so hard to learn their lines, songs and makaton signing. They really captured the meaning of Christmas and ensured everyone left with a huge smile on their face. Well done to all of Reception and KS1. What a fantastic week! ๐โญ๏ธ๐ซ

Visit from Father Christmas & Nativity Preparations
We have been getting ready for the event of the year…the EYFS & KS1 Nativity! No spoilers here though, we are saving our hard work for the performances. After a hugely successful Christmas fair, organised by our wonderful PTA, the celebrations were started with a visit from Father Christmas! Year 1 we’re very excited and had a lovely chat with him, asking lots of insightful questions. ๐๐ โญ๏ธ

Computing - Introducing Programming
The children have been loving programming and the challenge of sequencing and creating alogorithms to move objects around the screen. They have worked together and independently to create a programme and have had to debug any mistakes. They are now working on using the key words correctly when explaining what they are doing. Excellent work Year 1, keep it up! ๐ฅ๐คโฌ๏ธ

Science - Investigating Plants
Year 1 are loving their Science topic this half term. They enjoyed some outdoor learning this week and took to the school grounds to explore the tree they could see. The children enjoye recognising deciduous and evergreen trees and getting to spend time feeling the trees and recognising the different parts. Super work Year 1, keep it up. ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐๐ฟ
11th - 15th November 2024
PE- Gymnastics
Year 1 have continued with gymnastics this week, focusing on different ways to roll. The children worked well to improve their techniques and enjoyed our gam of ‘don’t crack the egg’ where they were challenged to complete a tuck roll without their arms of legs breaking free. Keep up the super work Year 1!๐คธโ๏ธโบ๏ธ๐ฅ

Bonfire Break the Rules Day
The children had a wonderful day breaking the rules! They all looked amazing and from extra play, finishing work early and having a mid day dance party and many other things, Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed themselves. ๐๐คช

Geography
We have loved exploring our Geography topic, Where Do I Live? The children have been learning the UK countries and capital cities and characteristics about the places. Thy children then had to locate the countries in our playground map. Super work Year 1 ๐๐ฌ๐ง

DT - Part 2
Year 1 threw themselves into making, testing and evaluating thei toy car garages this week. The children had a blast decorating assembling and testing their garages. They were dedicated to ensure they created the best stable structures they could and showed great knowledge and skill. Well done a year 1, your garages were great, โญ๏ธ๐
7th - 11th October 2024
DT - Part 1
Year 1 began by designing their toy car garages. Together they tested and sampled different materials to decide which would be most suitable for their own product. Once the children have done this, they put together some instructions to follow and began to paint their boxes. They are very excited to assemble their stable structure next week โบ๏ธ๐

Phonics
Year 1 have been working incredibly hard to develop their phonics knowledge and applying this when writing. We love our phonics lessons and rise to the challenge every week to learn new sounds and improve our reading and writing skills. Keep it up Year 1, you are amazing! ๐โญ๏ธ

European Day of Languages
This week we have been celebrating European Day of Languages. The children began by exploring different ways to say hello in many European languages, with each other. They also shared some of their own knowledge of world languages, that their families or they could speak. The children are looking forward to continuing to learn some more words in French (our school MFL) over the year.

Topic - History - Seaside Holidays from the Past
Year 1 have been loving our first History unit this year. We have been exploring seaside holidays in the Victorian times. The children had to work in teams to be detectives, to find information about how the Victorians spent their time at the seaside. Well done Year 1 for your enthusiasm and excellent work in History. ๐๐

We Love Reading
After celebrating National Read A Book Day, last week, Year 1 really caught the reading bug! The children have spent time throughout the week in our school library, reading for pleasure and choosing some new books for our class library. We can’t wait to read lots more this year! ๐โค๏ธ๐

First Week in Year 1
It has been a lovely first few days settling in to our new classroom and routines. The children have been wonderful and have been sharing their different personalities. We can’t wait for a super year together to learn and grow!
