  • Scottish day

    Fri 27 Nov 2015
THE RETURN OF THE FLYING SCOTSMAN !!
On Friday 27th November Mr White is returning to school for one of his Scottish days to raise funds for Mary's Meals.
Mary's Meals was set up in Scotland by Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow a salmon fisherman from Oban.  Magnus and his brother were watching a programme on the television about the Bosnian conflict and decided to collect aid to help.  As people kept donating aid Magnus gave up his job and continued to take the aid to Bosnia.  He soon expanded his aid to other countries. In 2002 Magnus met a lady called Emma when he was providing famine relief in Malawi.  She was dying of aids surrounded by her six children.  Magnus asked her eldest, Edward, what he hoped for in life.  He replied simply: "I want to have enough food to eat and to go to school one day". Edward's words helped inspire the founding of Mary's Meals which aims to feed chronically hungry children with one meal every school day. Mary's Meals are now feeding over one million children every day they attend school across Africa, Asia, the Carribean and South America.
Mary's Meals has no highly paid executives and 93p in every pound goes to feed the children. The office used by Magnus is still the shed that was used to store the first aid in 1992. It costs only £12 to feed a child for a whole school year and up until the end of December this year the UK government is matching all money raised. This means that for every £12 raised they can feed two children instead of one.

Please come along from 2:00 p.m. onwards to enjoy some Scottish food, music and dancing.
